Reading pg. 22-33
Kelly Stafford
Discussion and Journaling:
1) Kleine’s
research I would have to agree was a lot like my own. It’s easy to think that
you open a book research and then write all you can until you’re finished but
that’s normally not how it goes. I would say I am a hunter and a gather at the
same time. I like to begin with gathering information and then start writing
but writing is also a huge part of the learning. You have to write to continue
to learn and also you might discover more as you continue in your own writing. I
believe this is very similar to my style.
3) In professional writes and scholar’s
writings, I think research does play a part but not a very big one. I believe
from Kleine’s research he found that most professionals are designed to do more
investigating, coming at research as a hunting and gathering as they go
technique. Contrary to how students will sit in a library all day doing research
on one single subject. In high school, I believe my research efforts were
exactly what Kleine explained in the beginning of the reading, it was not so
much observing or gathering, it was a hunt to find the material I absolutely
needed and then a stop after that. I see a huge difference in the two but it is
also a huge are where I could improve.
4) After reading Kleine’s research
and comparing it to my own, there is definitely a ton of room for change and improvement.
I have never heard of the hunting and gathering theory but it seems to be
extremely helpful. It’s excellent to look at research as a way to constantly
learn, whether it’s through research before, during or after you write. I need
to change my research habits in a way that will heavily benefit me and help me
recognize when I can learn something new even through my own writing.
